OneTrip StarBurst™ Multilateral System Enables Remediation of Failed Well

Our StarBurst whipstock system enabled Weatherford and StatoilHydro to remediate a failed North Sea well after another service company had made unsuccessful attempts to runa whipstock to setting depth and create a window in the casing. The joint crew used a running tool to install the StarBurst whipstock system, thereby reducing the hydraulic forces working on the shear bolt (the presumed cause of the failure to set a whipstock on previous attempts). They deployed the whipstock into the wellbore and completed a smooth, full-gauge window and rathole. The success of the operation enabled our client to avoid additional nonproductive time, costly in light of particularly high rig rates. Les Mer

Shallow-Angle QuickCut™ Casing Exit System Used to Mill Chrome Casing in One Trip, Reducing Junction Installation Costs 

Weatherford and StatoilHydro personnel worked jointly to plan and execute an operation using our shallow-angle QuickCut casing exit system to mill a full-gauge window in 9 5/8-in., 53.5-lb/ft, 13% chrome casing in a single trip. They completed a smooth, full-gauge window through 6m (19.7 ft) of the formation in 4-1/2 hours. Single-trip installation helped reduce junction installation costs. Weatherford’s MillSmart^SM milling technology minimized the associated risk of failure when milling in 13% chrome casing. Les Mer
