OVERVIEW
Weatherford Norge AS: Structured for Service
Weatherford began offering tubular running services to clients drilling on the Norwegian shelf in 1968. Six years later we established a permanent presence in Norway with the creation of Stavanger-based Weatherford Norge AS. Fueled by an abundant supply (including the largest oil and natural gas reserves in Western Europe), a strong economy and increasing global demand, the country’s oil and gas sector has grown substantially during our tenure here. We have grown with it, progressively expanding our offering and presence in Norway to help clients overcome an ever-evolving range of challenges. In line with that tradition, we are well positioned to help meet today’s demands, among them:
- maximizing production in the country’s maturing fields;
- exploiting undeveloped resources in the Barents Sea;
- leveraging technology to minimize the environmental impact of drilling operations.
Local product and service portfolio
Our breadth of products and services in Norway spans the life cycle of a well: drilling, evaluation, completion, production and intervention. In addition to tubular running services, our traditional offerings have consisted of cementing, fishing and re-entry services, as well as drilling tools. More recent additions to our local portfolio include laboratory-based evaluation services, surface logging and a host of specialized drilling services, such as directional drilling and our Controlled Pressure Drilling® suite.
Locations
Our eight facilities in Norway are strategically located throughout the country.
Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environment Standards
In accord with our global philosophy, we maintain the highest industry quality, health, safety, security and environment (QHSSE) standards here. Dedicated QHSSE professionals oversee our QHSSE-related efforts at our operations facilities in Norway, all of which are ISO 9001 certified.
Human Resources
Approximately 430 employees—the majority of whom are Norwegian—support our local operations. Recognizing the integral role training and competence assurance play in our ability to serve our clients, we provide our personnel with classroom training at domestic and global training facilities to supplement their field experience.
Acquisitions in Norway
Weatherford has been the direct beneficiary of Norway’s wealth of intellectual capital in more ways than one. In addition to our local recruiting efforts, several acquisitions have contributed to our expansion here, adding valuable human resources and technology to our Norwegian, as well as global, product and service portfolio.
